A stream that keeps pausing is frustrating, especially during a match. The good news: most buffering has a simple cause at home. Work through these fixes in order; most people are back to a smooth picture within the first few.
Quick fixes (2 minutes)
- Restart the app. Close it completely and open it again.
- Restart the device. On Fire TV: Settings → My Fire TV → Restart. On Android TV: hold the power button and choose Restart. This clears memory, which matters on streaming sticks.
- Restart the router. Unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Try another channel. If every channel buffers, the problem is your connection or device. If only one does, see fix 12.
Connection fixes
- Use a cable. An Ethernet connection is the single biggest improvement for live TV. Fire TV Sticks need an Ethernet adapter.
- Switch to 5 GHz Wi-Fi if you can’t use a cable, and keep the device within sight of the router.
- Pause heavy downloads. Game updates, cloud backups and other streams compete for your bandwidth.
- Test your speed on the TV itself. You need about 20 Mbps for Full HD and 35 Mbps for 4K, per stream. See how much speed you need.
Device and app fixes
- Increase the buffer in TiviMate. Go to Settings → Playback → Buffer size and choose a larger value. The stream starts a moment later but pauses far less.
- Free up storage. Uninstall apps you don’t use and clear the cache of old apps. Streaming sticks slow down when they’re nearly full.
- Choose the right quality. If a 4K channel stutters, use the Full HD version. A smooth Full HD picture looks better than a stuttering 4K one.
Still buffering on one channel?
- Tell us. A single channel can occasionally have a problem at the source. Open a ticket with the channel name, your device, the time it happened and your speed test result. We’ll check it.
What about a VPN?
Moa TV doesn’t need a VPN. Some people use one for privacy, and a VPN can help if an internet provider slows down video traffic. It can also slow streams down if the server is far away or busy. If you use one, choose a fast server near you and test with and without it.
Why live sport buffers more
Big matches put the most pressure on every part of the chain, from servers to your home Wi-Fi, and the action is fast-moving, which needs more data. Our anti-freeze streaming is built for those moments, and our match-day checklist helps you prepare your side.
